Interlibrary Loan: Interlibrary Loan

Interlibrary Loan Policy

Eligibility for Interlibrary Loan and Document Delivery Services:

Stimson Library provides interlibrary loans free to current U.S. Army Medical Center of Excellence faculty, students, staff, and administrators, regardless of campus or off-site facility location, hereafter referred to as “users” in accordance with MEDCoE policy memo 25-10. If you are not part of MEDCoE then please contact your local library for services.

We attempt to borrow most items. Whole issues of journals, genealogical materials, dissertations, and a/v may be difficult to obtain. Due to copyright restrictions, articles may be borrowed once only. Books and other materials needed more than once will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis.

Requesting materials:

Users requesting an Interlibrary loan must use an interlibrary loan form.  Requests for monographs should include the work’s author, title, publisher, and publication year.  Requests for journal articles should include author, title, journal title, volume, issue, date of publication and page numbers.

All interlibrary loan requests must be mission essential or be within the subject scope of Stimson Library.  Requests for popular or recreational reader material will be referred to the JBSA FSH Post Library.

Interlibrary Loan Turnaround Time and Delivery

Article requests
Stimson Library has excellent turnaround time with article requests being received within 1-3 days. Articles are delivered to the email address you supplied upon request.

Book requests
Turnaround time with books is from 1-2 weeks due to the schoolhouse limited mailroom hours.  You will be notified by email when your items arrive. Books are held at the Circulation Desk for pickup.

Returning Loans

Return loans to the Circulation Desk with the label or book strap attached.  Please return all materials on time. The lending library establishes the due date and the terms of the loan and may place restrictions on the use of the material.  Stimson Library may place additional restrictions on the use of borrowed material, if the material is considered valuable or irreplaceable.

Interlibrary loans supplied as photocopies or electronic copies of library materials are retained by the requestor.  These interlibrary loans are generally, depending on copyright and license restrictions, delivered by e-mail.

Renewing Loans

Submit renewal requests through email or in person on or before the due date. Renewals are granted by the lending library only. You may keep the book until we provide you with the new due date or request that you return the item.  We will send an email to you with the new due date.

Charges

There is no charge for electronic copies of journal articles and non-circulating material for users.

Copyright Information

The Stimson Library complies with the copyright guidelines of the Federal Government and individual publishers.  We may turn down requests due to copyright restrictions or charges.  We will attempt to refer you to a location where you can obtain the item.

Stimson Library has the right to provide or deny interlibrary loan services to other libraries, based on the use, availability, type, and value of requested material, as well as past experiences with the borrowing library and reciprocal agreements.  Stimson Library will give priority to interlibrary loans from federal, local, state, and regional libraries.  Requests for materials outside the southwest region and the federal library network will be given lower priority.

Stimson Library reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law.

Placing article/chapter requests implies that your request is in copyright compliance.

Requesting libraries responsible for compliance with the copyright law and the CONTU Guidelines.

The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted materials.
